Implants

Our God-daughter was today, at 7 months old, the youngest baby ever to have bi-lateral cochlear implants.

She is doing well, the doctors are pleased with the surgery. We are all very relieved it is over, especially her mum who has been amazing through this journey. She gets them switched on in 2 weeks and will then hear her very first sounds.

With 3 older brothers - will she regret it?

Nah - I don't think so!

Recover well, gorgeous girl. xx

Wow technology is amazing, I wonder how she will react when she hears sounds for the first time. What an amazing gift...

Aww, that's wonderful Claire...

I grew up with a neighbour, a little girl who was profoundly deaf, and I remember the clunky hearing aids and the risky surgeries she went through between the ages of four and sixteen, all to achieve only partial hearing in one ear. It didn't seem to limit her, but thank goodness that so many kids no longer have to endure any of that.

What a great story. I have a friend with a son who is deaf and it frustrates me no end that she won't entertain the thought of the surgery for him in case it doesn't work. Who does that in this day and age?

Each to their own I guess Ronnie. I know for my friend the decision to have it was easy, but the process has been really difficult. Personally, I think if the gift of hearing can be given then take it, but as I said each to their own.

I have just had a text photo of Isla, she is propped up in her hospital cot, drinking her bottle, looking happy enough.

She is still as beautiful as ever. I hope to see her today or tomorrow, but I worry a bit about passing on infection with my 3 kids and all our germs. I can wait, just as long as she is well.
